Global Thermostat은 DAC 시장에 가장 선두적으로 뛰어든 기업들 중 하나이다.

Global Thermostat launches plant in Adams County that sucks carbon dioxide out of the air

몇 가지 기사의 중요한 부분과 내 생각을 함께 적어둔다.

[1] Company officials said the plant shown off during a news conference can remove 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over a year and is a milestone in efforts to reduce heat-trapping greenhouse gasses.

• 규모를 확인해 볼 수 있다. 1년에 천톤 = 대략 하루에 3 kgCO2이고, 공기에 약 400 ppm의 CO2가 있는다고 생각한다면 대충 어느정도가 상업스케일인지 알 수 있다.

[2] Global Thermostat CEO Paul Nahi said the company’s decision to locate in Colorado was based on the state’s policies and the presence of engineering and high-tech professionals and the oil and gas industry, whose workers have skills that could transfer to what he believes will be a growing sector.

• 산업이 펀드를 받기 위해서 필요한 여러 가지 조건들을 기사에서 잘 표현해 두었다. 정책 뿐만 아니라, 그 지역의 특성도 함께 고려가 됨을 알 수 있다.

• 이런 부분들을 염두해서 연구 테마를 확장할 수 있고 - 아카데믹하게 문제를 풀어내면 신선한 논문이 될 수 있다.

 

[3] Companies around the world have been working on technology to remove carbon dioxide directly from the air to tackle climate change. The 2021 federal infrastructure law included billions of dollars for companies developing the system

s and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act tripled tax credits for direct air capture technology.

• 2번과 연계되는 맥락으로 - 정책과 법을 통해서 DRIVING되는 것들을 잘 파악해두면, 미래에 어떤 방향으로 나아가야하는지 알 수 있다. (논문 원고작성에서 역시 인트로덕션 적당히 인용할 수 있다는 사소한 장점)

[4] Swiss company Climeworks has a plant in Iceland that can remove 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually, Wohl said. The Canadian company Carbon Engineering is working with 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, on a direct air capture project in Texas.
